Funnily enough, I had this exact same 'lightbulb' moment just last month...I took my 12yr old daughter for a counselling session (just a one-off),sat there for moral support, and walked out of there feeling stunned, and so wishing that I had of received this help when I was 12yr! It could have halted the following 20yr + (I'm 32yr) of anxiety, depression and eating disorders...I would certainly agree with the research mentioned, and definitely think if you can 'nip it in the bud' whilst people are young enough to easily change, before these habits become 'entrenched', then there would be far less adults needing help, or 'breaking down'...Thankyou for sharing a very important issue! The most important of all is that about 15% of the people avoid to consult a professional due to reason that he would suggest antidepressant. So much...brave, brave, brave, brave beautiful post. So much to say on this one!

I too may have been made more ill by soya. I spent quite a lot of money over about 18 months before I was diagnosed hypothyroid, tryng to sort out my fatigue and general wobbly health "the natural way". I was seeing a naturopath who turned out not to be qualified (lesson there, check credentials then check again) and never once suggested my thyroid might be causing my problems, when my doctor diagnosed it her response was to suggest some iodine and glandular filled supplements that she clearly did not know very much about at all (only because of my own research did I know that iodine can be not good for autoimmune hypothyroidism!!!) Anyway for 18 months I was following her advice to drink soya rather than dairy. did that make me more ill than I might have been otherwise? Well I'll never know will I!!

Like you I tend not to express anger at the situation. I have a sunny disposition, I prefer to look on the bright side and celebrate what I've got, which is a lot.

I'm doing a lot of work right now on self love and forgiveness, I didn't think I needed to, I've always liked myself and thought I'd forgiven everyone I needed to for past issues. But looking at all that stuff again I'm finding it (I THINK) more healing than getting wound up about the situation. If I sit with myself and consider what I need to forgive myself for, being too trusting in the above situation is one, being a failure in my career because of my physical frailty is another. I have forgiven the naturopath because while she was making good money and maybe on a bit of an ego trip, I actually believe she was doing her best and motivated to heal.

but uncovering where we have lurking resentments, towards ourselves and others (and realising that they can creep back and sit there v. quietly even when we think they're dealt with...so doing this regularly....might just be a productive exercise!

Anyway, that's where my focus is right now. So lovely to be connected with and share with you.

Your sister will have a wonderful day and you will be an important part of it, I have no doubt. Love yourself this day. :)Thyroid Hope - Lorraine Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14391824802740895249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734714932801041464.post-11281661632375351402011-04-08T10:23:56.155+10:002011-04-08T10:23:56.155+10:00This comment has been removed by the author.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02964527872459898774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734714932801041464.post-63671532060871622022011-03-24T21:52:42.831+11:002011-03-24T21:52:42.831+11:00Yes I do love a bit of wheat at times, but I think...Yes I do love a bit of wheat at times, but I think I have less now I am off sugar because I used to eat it in sweet foods- ie. cake and cake and cakes.

I am off to the naturopath next week, so I shall be updating then. My thyroid went out of sync after I had my son, so I had been living in this hell called Hypothyroidism for 3 years and had absolutely no idea what was wrong with me. Recently my doc told me the medication they put me on were too high and now I'm in the Hyperthyroidism state which is just as bad. It can be dangerous to consume too much iodine. Here in Australia they have started adding it to all commercial bread to avoid deficiencies- which is a bother when your body is flooded with the stuff to the point of serious toxicity. The type of soy milk I was drinking was recalled in Dec '09 because it was found to be a danger to health, I believe this happened in New Zealand not so long ago with another brand. Something to be aware of...if you're interested to see more take a look at thebonsoydebacle.com.auSarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02964527872459898774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734714932801041464.post-71525596296932212772011-02-06T23:41:11.147+11:002011-02-06T23:41:11.147+11:00oh that's so great to hear!! well done!!! I went dairy free for a year before I was diagnosed hypothyroid and switched to soya milk. I will always wonder if that played a part in my health deteriorating. I get so cross about all these people on the internet claiming simple cures for thyroid issues when they don't know what they're talking about and could cause people to overdose on iodine, etc and get worse. GRRRRR. Very happy you are feeling better, long may you continue to improve. :)Thyroid Hope - Lorraine Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14391824802740895249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734714932801041464.post-28491877418345165582011-01-28T12:05:06.159+11:002011-01-28T12:05:06.159+11:00Hmm, I don't have any data but I have a hypoth...Hmm, I don't have any data but I have a hypothesis that it could be lifestyle related. Most people with thyroid issues have an auto immune condition, which means the body is out of balance and attacking itself. This could be relevant to the changes to our food-it's more refined, processed & chemically altered. We're exposed to pollutants in air, water etc & everyday chemicals in the home, including beauty products.

Also our lives can be more hectic & intense, not allowing adequate rest. What do you think?

Sarah Wilson talks about these lifestyle factors quite a bit on her blog and over time she has made so many healthy changes that that she has healed her autoimmune condition.
